Age Calculator

Enter your date of birth and the date to calculate age on (today by default). You get your exact age in years, months and days, totals in months, weeks, days and hours, and a countdown to your next birthday.

Leave as today, or pick a cut-off date for an exam form (UPSC, SSC, NDA, Agniveer).

Your result appears here.

What is an age calculator?

An age calculator works out exactly how old a person is on any date. Enter a date of birth and the date you care about, and this online age calculator shows your completed age in years, months and days, plus totals in months, weeks, days, hours and minutes. It also tells you the weekday you were born on and how long is left until your next birthday. It is free, runs in your browser and never stores your date of birth.

People use an age calculator by date of birth for many everyday jobs: filling government forms, checking school admission age, confirming eligibility for UPSC, SSC CGL, NDA, MPPSC or Agniveer recruitment, planning retirement, or simply answering "how old am I?" in days.

How to use this age calculator

  1. Date of birth – pick your DOB from the calendar. This is the only field you must change.
  2. Age at the date of – today's date is filled in, so you see your running age right now. Change it to any past or future date to find age till a date, for example 1 August 2026 for an exam cut-off.
  3. Read the result: completed years, months and days at the top, with total months, weeks, days, hours and minutes below, then your next birthday and a countdown to it.

Because the age at date can be any day, the same tool works as an age difference calculator: enter the older person's date of birth as the DOB and the younger person's date of birth as the "age at" date to see the age gap between two people, siblings or a couple before marriage.

How to calculate age from date of birth

The age calculator formula is simple subtraction with borrowing, the same way you subtract numbers by hand:

Age = (Y2 − Y1) years, (M2 − M1) months, (D2 − D1) days

  • Y1, M1, D1 = year, month and day of birth
  • Y2, M2, D2 = year, month and day of the "age at" date
  • If the days come out negative, borrow one month and add the number of days in the previous calendar month.
  • If the months come out negative, borrow one year and add 12 months.

Worked example

Say your date of birth is 15 January 2000 and you want your age on 18 September 2026. Years = 2026 − 2000 = 26. Months = 9 − 1 = 8. Days = 18 − 15 = 3. No borrowing is needed, so your age is 26 years, 8 months and 3 days. That is 320 months and 3 days, or 9,743 days in total – about 1,391 weeks or 2,33,832 hours.

Now take a DOB of 25 March 1995 and a date of 10 July 2026. Days = 10 − 25 = −15, so borrow a month: June has 30 days, giving 15 days, and months fall from 4 to 3. Result: 31 years, 3 months, 15 days. This borrowing rule is how you calculate age by DOB by hand, and it is exactly what the calculator does.

Leap years and month-end birthdays

Months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, so a good age calculator with days must borrow the real length of the previous month rather than assume 30. This calculator uses the actual calendar, so ages across February and leap years come out right. Total days are counted between the two dates exactly, including every 29 February in between.

If you were born on 29 February, your birthday only appears in leap years. In other years most people and most offices celebrate on 28 February, so the next-birthday countdown uses 28 February in non-leap years. Legally, some countries treat 1 March as the day you complete a year; check the rule if the difference matters for a form.

Age calculator for government exams (UPSC, SSC, NDA, Agniveer)

Recruitment notices state an upper and lower age limit "as on" a fixed cut-off date, not today's date. To use this as an age calculator for UPSC, SSC CGL, NDA, MPPSC or the Agniveer scheme, set the "age at" date to the cut-off date printed in the notification. The result shows your completed age on that date.

  • A candidate is usually eligible if the completed age is at least the minimum and has not crossed the maximum on the cut-off date. Many notices instead give a date-of-birth window ("born not earlier than … and not later than …") – compare your DOB with that window directly.
  • Age relaxation for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD and ex-servicemen is added to the upper limit (for example +5 or +3 years). Add the relaxation to the limit, not to your age.
  • Always go by the date of birth recorded in your Class 10 certificate, because that is the one the commission verifies.

Age calculator for school admission

Schools in India fix a minimum age for each class as on a date such as 31 March or 1 June of the admission year. Under the NEP 2020 structure most states now expect a child to be 6 years old for Class 1. Enter the child's DOB and the school's cut-off date to see the exact age in years and months; this age calculator for school admission removes the guesswork when a birthday falls near the cut-off.

Age in months, weeks, days and hours

Sometimes you need age in a single unit. Doctors track babies' age in months and weeks, pet owners count days, and people like to know when they turn 10,000 days old (about 27 years and 4 months). The calculator lists your total months, weeks, days, hours and minutes lived, so you can read your age in years, months or days without converting anything yourself.

UnitHow it is countedExample (26 y 8 m 3 d)

How to calculate age in Excel

If you keep a list of birthdays in a spreadsheet (an age calculator xls), use the DATEDIF function. With the date of birth in A2:

  • Completed years: =DATEDIF(A2, TODAY(), "Y")
  • Remaining months: =DATEDIF(A2, TODAY(), "YM")
  • Remaining days: =DATEDIF(A2, TODAY(), "MD")
  • Total days: =TODAY() - A2

Replace TODAY() with a cell holding any date to get age till that date. Excel's "MD" option can misbehave around month ends, so cross-check odd results here.

Indian method of calculating age

Official records in India use completed age: you are 25 until the day before your 26th birthday. Some traditional systems count the year of birth as year one, which makes a person one year "older" in conversation. Horoscope and some Nepali calendar (Bikram Sambat) conversions also differ. This calculator follows the international completed-age method used by government offices, passports and exam boards. In Hindi, people often ask "age kaise nikale" – the answer is the same subtraction method shown above.

To count the days between any two dates or add days to a date, use the date calculator. To plan when you can stop working, try the retirement calculator, and for adding hours and minutes use the time calculator.

A live counter just repeats this sum every second; press Calculate again to refresh the totals here.

Age calculator Nepali (Bikram Sambat)

Nepal uses the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar, which is about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian (AD) calendar. BS year ≈ AD year + 57 from mid-April (Baisakh 1) to December, and AD + 56 from January to mid-April. This age calculator uses AD dates, so convert a BS date of birth to AD first; your age in completed years comes out the same in both calendars.

Age calculator gen Z and other generations

Pew Research Center defines Gen Z as people born from 1997 to 2012, so in 2026 Gen Z ranges from about 14 to 29 years old. Millennials were born 1981–1996 and Gen X 1965–1980. Use the age calculator to see exactly how old you are within your generation.

Age calculator for pregnancy

A pregnancy age is counted in weeks from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), not from conception. Enter the LMP as the start date and today as the end date: 70 days is 10 weeks. The pregnancy due date calculator gives weeks, trimester and due date directly.

Age calculator with photo: what it can and cannot do

An age calculator online by photo uses face analysis to guess how old someone looks, and it can be off by several years. It cannot give your legal age. For forms, exams and documents, only an age calculator with the date of birth gives an exact answer.

Age calculator vs date calculator and apps

An age calculator counts completed years, months and days from a birth date; a date calculator counts days between any two dates or adds days to a date. You do not need an age calculator app: this page works in any phone browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my age from date of birth?

Subtract your birth year, month and day from the current year, month and day. If the days are negative, borrow a month and add the days of the previous month; if the months are negative, borrow a year and add 12. The age calculator does this automatically.

How old am I if I was born in 2000?

If you were born on 15 January 2000, you are 26 years, 8 months and 3 days old on 18 September 2026. Enter your exact date of birth above for your own figure, since the birthday decides whether you have completed the year.

How do I calculate age on a specific date for an exam?

Change the "Age at the date of" field to the cut-off date in the notification (for example 1 August 2026 for UPSC). The result is your completed age on that date.

How does the calculator handle leap years?

It uses the real calendar, so February has 28 or 29 days and total days include every leap day. People born on 29 February see their next birthday on 28 February in non-leap years.

Can I find the age difference between two people?

Yes. Put the older person's date of birth as the DOB and the younger person's date of birth as the "age at" date. The result is the age gap in years, months and days.

How do I calculate age in Excel?

Use =DATEDIF(A2,TODAY(),"Y") for years, "YM" for extra months and "MD" for extra days, where A2 holds the date of birth.

Is this age calculator free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser, so your date of birth is never sent anywhere.

How old will I be in 2026?

Subtract your birth year from 2026. If your birthday is later in the year, you are one year younger until then.

Which years are Gen Z?

Pew Research Center uses 1997 to 2012.
