Free online time zone converter
This time zone converter tells you what the clock reads in another part of the world at a date and time you choose. Pick the date, the time and the zone it is in – India Standard Time, for example – then pick the zone you want, and you instantly get the converted time, the exact time difference and a world clock showing the same moment in eight major cities. It covers more than 50 zones, including IST, EST, CST, MST, PST, GMT, BST, CET, GST (Dubai), SGT, JST, KST, AEST and NZST.
Because it uses the official IANA time zone database built into your browser, the time zone converter with daylight savings works for past and future dates: convert a call next March and it knows whether New York or London will have moved their clocks by then. It opens on your own time zone (or IST) and the current time, so a quick IST to EST check takes one click.
How to use the time zone converter
- Set the date and time you want to convert, or press Use current time.
- Choose the From time zone – where that clock time applies.
- Choose the To time zone – where the other person is.
- Read the converted time, the offset of each zone from UTC and how many hours one is ahead or behind. Press Swap zones to flip the conversion while keeping the same moment.
What is a time zone?
A time zone is a region that keeps the same standard clock time. Because the Earth turns 360° in 24 hours, the Sun crosses 15° of longitude every hour, so the world was divided into zones roughly 15° wide, each one hour apart. All of them are defined as an offset from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), the modern successor of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Pilots and the military call UTC “Zulu” time, which is why a Zulu time zone converter is simply a UTC converter.
In practice zone borders follow countries and states rather than straight lines, and some zones are offset by 30 or 45 minutes. India uses UTC+5:30, Nepal UTC+5:45 and parts of Australia UTC+9:30.
How to calculate time zones using longitude
Geography books teach a simple rule: every 15° of longitude equals one hour, and every 1° equals 4 minutes. Places east of Greenwich are ahead; places west are behind.
Local time difference (minutes) = Longitude difference (degrees) × 4
For example, India’s standard meridian is 82.5° E, so IST = 82.5 × 4 = 330 minutes = 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of GMT. This gives local solar time; real clocks follow the official zone of each country, which is what the converter uses.
What is the time zone of India in UTC?
India has a single time zone, India Standard Time (IST), which is UTC+5:30 all year round. India does not observe daylight saving time, so the IST offset never changes – but the gap between India and countries that do change their clocks shifts twice a year.
IST vs EST, PST, CST, GMT and more
The table shows how far India is ahead of popular zones. “Summer” means the other country is on daylight saving time.
| Zone | UTC offset (winter / summer) | IST is ahead by (winter / summer) | 9:00 am IST is |
|---|---|---|---|
| US Eastern – EST / EDT (New York, Toronto) | −5 / −4 | 10 h 30 m / 9 h 30 m | 10:30 pm / 11:30 pm previous day |
| US Central – CST / CDT (Chicago, Dallas) | −6 / −5 | 11 h 30 m / 10 h 30 m | 9:30 pm / 10:30 pm previous day |
| US Pacific – PST / PDT (Los Angeles, Vancouver) | −8 / −7 | 13 h 30 m / 12 h 30 m | 7:30 pm / 8:30 pm previous day |
| UK – GMT / BST (London) | 0 / +1 | 5 h 30 m / 4 h 30 m | 3:30 am / 4:30 am |
| Central Europe – CET / CEST (Berlin, Paris) | +1 / +2 | 4 h 30 m / 3 h 30 m | 4:30 am / 5:30 am |
| Dubai – GST | +4 (no DST) | 1 h 30 m | 7:30 am |
| Singapore, Hong Kong, China | +8 (no DST) | IST is 2 h 30 m behind | 11:30 am |
| Japan JST, Korea KST | +9 (no DST) | IST is 3 h 30 m behind | 12:30 pm |
| Sydney – AEST / AEDT | +10 / +11 | IST is 4 h 30 m / 5 h 30 m behind | 1:30 pm / 2:30 pm |
So for an EST to IST conversion in winter, add 10 hours 30 minutes; for PST to IST, add 13 hours 30 minutes. Going the other way (IST to PST or IST to EST), subtract the same amount. Note that “BST” can mean British Summer Time (UTC+1) or Bangladesh Standard Time (UTC+6) and “CST” can mean US Central or China Standard Time – picking a city avoids that confusion, which is why this time zone converter lists zones by place.
Daylight saving time (DST)
Many countries move their clocks forward one hour in spring and back in autumn. The United States and Canada switch on the second Sunday of March and the first Sunday of November; the UK and the European Union switch on the last Sunday of March and the last Sunday of October; Australia and New Zealand, in the southern hemisphere, do the opposite. For a few weeks each year the US and Europe are out of step, so the New York to London difference drops from five hours to four. India, the UAE, Singapore, China, Japan, Hawaii, Arizona and Queensland (Brisbane) do not use DST at all.
That is why an online time zone converter for a future date is safer than doing sums in your head. Choose the real date of your meeting and the tool applies the right rule. If you enter a clock time that is skipped when clocks spring forward, the converter warns you.
How to calculate time zone difference by hand
- Find each place’s UTC offset on that date (for example, New York −4 in July, India +5:30).
- Subtract: +5:30 − (−4:00) = 9 hours 30 minutes. India is 9½ hours ahead.
- Add the difference to the earlier time zone (or subtract it from the later one) and adjust the date if you cross midnight.
For adding or subtracting hours and minutes, the time calculator does the arithmetic, and the hours calculator totals working hours across shifts.
Meeting planner tips for multiple countries
- India to USA: the overlap is small. Early morning IST (7–9 am) catches the previous evening in New York; late evening IST (8–10 pm) catches the US East Coast morning. The US West Coast is hardest – try 8:30–10:30 pm IST.
- India to UK and Europe: afternoon IST (1:30–6 pm) overlaps the European morning comfortably.
- India to Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan: most of the working day overlaps, since the gap is under four hours.
- New York to London and London to Sydney: New York to London is usually five hours; London to Sydney is 9–11 hours depending on DST in both places, so check the date.
- Always send invitations with the time zone written out, or a calendar invite that converts automatically, and recheck recurring meetings around DST changes.
Forex market hours in IST
Traders use a time zone converter for forex market hours. The main sessions – Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York – are defined in local time, so their IST times shift with DST. As a guide, the London session opens around 12:30–1:30 pm IST and the New York session around 5:30–6:30 pm IST, and the London–New York overlap in the Indian evening is usually the most active period.
Time zone converter for India and the USA
This time zone converter for India handles every pair with IST (UTC+5:30), including daylight saving on the other side. Use it as a time zone converter from India to USA or from USA to India: pick India (IST) and a US city, and the answer shifts automatically when the US changes its clocks.
| US zone | IST is ahead by (winter) | IST is ahead by (summer, DST) |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern (New York) | 10 h 30 min | 9 h 30 min |
| Central (Chicago) | 11 h 30 min | 10 h 30 min |
| Mountain (Denver) | 12 h 30 min | 11 h 30 min |
| Pacific (Los Angeles, Vancouver) | 13 h 30 min | 12 h 30 min |
| Hawaii (no DST) | 15 h 30 min | 15 h 30 min |
Time zone converter: CST to IST
For a time zone converter from CST to IST, add 11 h 30 min in winter (CST, UTC−6) or 10 h 30 min when Chicago is on CDT (UTC−5). 9:00 AM in Chicago in January is 8:30 PM in India.
IST vs PST time zone converter
In an IST vs PST time zone converter, India is 13 h 30 min ahead of PST and 12 h 30 min ahead of PDT. 9:00 AM in Los Angeles in winter is 10:30 PM IST.
Time zone converter: BST to IST
BST here means British Summer Time (UTC+1), used from late March to late October. For a time zone converter from BST to IST, add 4 h 30 min; in winter, when the UK is on GMT, add 5 h 30 min.
Time zone converter for USA: every main zone
For the USA, the time zone converter lists Eastern, Central, Mountain, Arizona, Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii, online and with no sign-up. Hawaii stays on HST (UTC−10) all year, so its offset is the same in every season.
What is the best time zone in the USA for working with India?
There is no single best time zone in the USA, but US Eastern time overlaps best with Indian working hours: 9:00 AM in New York is 7:30 PM (winter) or 6:30 PM (summer) in India. From the Pacific coast the overlap is only early morning in the US and late night in India.
Time zone converter for Asia-Pacific cities
Time zone converter: Hong Kong to India and Hong Kong to London
Hong Kong (UTC+8) has no daylight saving. In a time zone converter from Hong Kong to India, subtract 2 h 30 min. From Hong Kong to London, subtract 8 hours in winter or 7 hours when the UK is on BST.
Time zone converter: Japan to PST and Korea
Japan (JST) and Korea (KST) are both UTC+9 with no DST. In a time zone converter from Japan to PST, subtract 17 hours (16 hours when California is on PDT), so 9:00 AM Tuesday in Tokyo is 4:00 PM Monday in Los Angeles in winter. Korea is 3 h 30 min ahead of India.
Time zone converter: New Zealand (NZ)
New Zealand uses NZST (UTC+12) and NZDT (UTC+13) from late September to early April. A time zone converter for NZ shows India 6 h 30 min behind in the NZ winter and 7 h 30 min behind in the NZ summer.
Queensland time zone converter
Queensland (Brisbane) stays on AEST, UTC+10, all year, while Sydney and Melbourne move to AEDT in summer. That is why a Queensland time zone converter shows Brisbane one hour behind Sydney from October to April.
Time zone converter: New York to Sydney and London to Sydney
Both hemispheres change clocks, in opposite seasons, so the gap moves. In a time zone converter from New York to Sydney, Sydney is 14 hours ahead in July and 16 hours ahead in January (15 hours for a few weeks in between). From London to Sydney the gap is 9 hours in July and 11 hours in January.
Time zone converter: New York to Philippines
The Philippines is on UTC+8 with no DST. A time zone converter from New York to the Philippines adds 13 hours in winter and 12 hours in summer, so 8:00 PM in New York is 9:00 AM the next day in Manila (winter).
Time zone converter: Vancouver
Vancouver uses Pacific time, the same as Los Angeles: PST (UTC−8) in winter and PDT (UTC−7) in summer.
Time zone converter meeting planner for multiple countries
Use this time zone converter for meetings as a simple meeting planner: set the proposed time in your zone, then switch the "To" zone to each attendee's city, or read the world clock that shows 8 cities at once. As a time zone converter for multiple countries, aim for a slot between 8 AM and 8 PM for everyone; for India–US East Coast teams, 9–11 AM Eastern (7:30–9:30 PM IST in winter) usually works.
Time zone converter for Discord
Discord can show a time in each reader's own zone. Convert your time to a Unix timestamp and type <t:1790865000:F> in a message – that example is 1 October 2026, 8:00 PM IST, and everyone sees it in their local time. This time zone converter for Discord events helps you pick the right local time before you post.
XAUUSD time zone converter
Gold (XAUUSD) trades almost 24 hours from Monday to Friday, but many brokers show charts in server time, often UTC+2 or UTC+3 in summer. As an XAUUSD time zone converter, choose UTC as the "From" zone, subtract the server offset from the chart time, and convert to IST to see when the London and New York sessions open where you are.

You do not need an app, a download or a Chrome extension: this free time zone converter runs in any browser on phone or computer. Bookmark it, or add it to your home screen, and it opens like an app. Unlike many similar tools, it also shows the time difference and a world clock for the same moment.
Frequently asked questions
What is the time difference between IST and EST?
India (IST, UTC+5:30) is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of US Eastern Standard Time (UTC−5) in winter and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead of Eastern Daylight Time (UTC−4) from March to November.
How many hours is PST behind IST?
Pacific Standard Time is 13 hours 30 minutes behind IST in winter. During Pacific Daylight Time (March to November) the gap is 12 hours 30 minutes.
Is GMT the same as UTC?
For everyday use, yes – both are UTC+0. UTC is the precise atomic time standard, while GMT is the time zone used in the UK in winter. In summer the UK uses BST, which is UTC+1.
Does India have daylight saving time?
No. India uses India Standard Time (UTC+5:30) all year, so only the other country’s clock change affects the time difference.
